With this wifi you can access websites/videos and apps without using the data on you phone.
You also need wifi to access the internet on a laptop or tablet.
Global system for mobile: Is a standard developed by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) to describe protocols for second-generation (2G) digital cellular networks used by mobile phones.
Nokia are well known for their GSM mobile phones, its the downgrade of 3G but still runs on data.
Some phones today still use GSM if their phone cannot connect to wifi or 3G/4G.
3rd generation protocols: 3G finds wireless internet which runs on Data and can allow you to send messages, video calls, voice calls and use internet apps without Wifi.
3G is a connection to a wireless internet which can only run on data from your mobile, without data you cannot connect to this 3G.
You can still access apps and internet along as you have the data.
multimedia message service: Extends text messaging to include longer text, graphics, photos, audio clips, video clips, or any combination of the above, within certain size limits.MMS is frequently used to send photos and videos from camera phones to other MMS phones or email accounts.
General packet radio service: Is a packet oriented 2G and 3G cellular communication system's global system for mobile communications.

Facebook Research Case Study.
Facebook is a social networking website Its website was launched on February 4 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg with his college friends at Harvard University, which went around other Boston area colleges and was used by University students.
Since 2006 anyone over the age of 13 can sign up to for Facebook although in the UK due to local law you'd have to be 16.
From 2005 Facebook was available for everyone worldwide.
Once you create a Facebook you are able to set up a profile picture, submit your phone number and have access to find friends.
Facebook have a multimedia service and have a separate app called 'Messenger' which you have to download if you have the Facebook App and if you don't download it you cannot message people.
Facebook Notes was added to Facebook in August 22 2006 which was a blogging feature which you can write anything on the side of your profile. This can benefit since you can write basic messages to those who are looking on your profile and can tell if you're the person they're looking for or not.

Facebook Chat was added on April 6th 2008, it is a comet-based instant messaging application.
This benefits since it allows users to communicate with other users in a functional way.

Facebook Voice calls was added on April 2011. Was partners with T-Mobile bobsled service allowing to communicate all round the world.
This is beneficial since if you live in another country to family or friends you can communicate verbally.
Facebook Video Since July 6th 2011 and was launched with Skype as a technology partner and only allows one-to-one video calling.
Positives:
A video was uploaded on Facebook by Seth's parents to share their son's rare condition of Scid which is a baby which is born with no immune system.

The Facebook video was shared over 605,646 shares, and has 18,180,076 views.
This campaign they created via Facebook went world wide and trended on all sites.
This was a great appeal to spread awareness for the condition and made the boy feel less alone.

Negatives:
In December 2008 a £1 Million house was vandalised by 400 party crashers as the news of the party was spread via Facebook.
There was 400 adults at home to stay and watch the party which was only meant to hold 100 of the 16 year old girl's friends.
500 people ended up turning up and vandalising walls, smashing flower pots, broke windows and the floors of the house was littered with beer cans.
